“What is al-harj?” He replied, “Killing, killing,” three times. Ahmad alone reported this wording through this chain, and it satisfies the conditions laid down by Muslim; Abu Dawud likewise related it through al-Qaʿnabi, from al-Darawardi, from al-ʿAlaʾ. (1)
Another narration, transmitted by Muhammad ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAlqamah, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah, states that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The Hour will not arrive until thirty imposters—liars—emerge, each of them fabricating against Allah and His Messenger.” (2)
Ahmad also said: Yaḥya narrated to us; ʿAwf narrated to us; Khilas narrated to us, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “Ahead of the Hour there will be nearly thirty imposters, liars, all of whom will say, ‘I am a prophet, I am a prophet.’” This chain is good and sound, and Ahmad alone recorded it. (3)
Ahmad further said: al-Hasan ibn Musa narrated to us; Ibn Lahiʿah narrated to us; Salman ibn ʿAmir narrated to us, from Abu ʿUthman al-Aṣbaḥi, who said: I heard Abu Hurayrah say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “There will arise within my community imposters and liars who will bring you novel reports such as neither you nor your forefathers ever heard. So beware of them and let them beware of you, lest they lead you astray.” (4)
Al-Hafiz Abu Yaʿla al-Mawsili said: Abu Kurayb narrated to us; Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Asadi narrated to us; Harun ibn Ṣalih al-Hamdhani narrated to us, from al-Harith ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, from Abu al-Jallas, who said: I heard ʿAli say to ʿAbd Allah al-Sabāʾī, “Woe to you! By Allah, the Prophet did not confide in me anything that I have concealed from anyone, yet I did hear him say, ‘Ahead of the Hour there will be thirty liars, and you are one of them.’” Abu Yaʿla likewise transmitted it through Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah from Muhammad ibn al-Hasan with the same chain. (5)
In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, through the chain of Abu Qilabah, from Abu Asmaʾ, from Thawban, it is related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There will arise in my community thirty liars, each claiming to be a prophet, whereas I am the Seal of the Prophets—there is no prophet after me …” the hadith in full. (6)
Imam Ahmad also said: Abu al-Walid narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Iyad ibn Laqiṭ narrated to us; Iyad narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Nuʿm—or Nuʿaym—al-Aʿraji (Abu al-Walid was unsure), who said: A man asked Ibn ʿUmar about temporary marriage—mutʿah with women—while I was present. He replied, “By Allah, during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we were neither fornicators nor libertines.” Then he said, “By Allah …”
