Ziyād; ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal narrated to us, from Abū Kabshah, who said:
I heard Abū Mūsā say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared:
“There are tribulations right before you, as dark as pieces of night. A man will awaken a believer and retire an unbeliever, or retire a believer and awaken an unbeliever. During them, the one who is seated is better than the one standing; the one standing is better than the one walking; and the one walking is better than the one running.”
They asked, “What do you command us?”
He answered,
“Stay in your homes and keep out of it.”

Imām Aḥmad said: Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb related to us; Ḥammād ibn Zayd related to us, from Ayyūb, from Abū Qilābah, from Abū Asmāʾ, from Thawbān, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Allah folded the earth for me so that I saw its eastern and western ends, and the dominion of my ummah will reach the extent that was folded for me. I have been given the two treasures, the red and the white. I asked my Lord for my ummah that they not be destroyed by a general famine, nor that an enemy other than themselves be let loose upon them to devastate their stronghold. My Lord—Exalted is He—said: ‘O Muḥammad, when I decree a matter it is not turned back. I have granted your ummah that I will not destroy them with a universal famine, nor place over them an enemy from outside themselves who would lay waste to them, even if the peoples of every region banded together against them’—or he said: ‘those from all regions’—‘until some of them capture others. I fear only the misleading leaders for my ummah. Once the sword is set among my ummah it will not be lifted from them until the Day of Resurrection. The Hour will not arrive until tribes from my ummah join the polytheists and tribes from my ummah worship idols. In my ummah there will be thirty great liars; each of them will claim to be a prophet, but I am the Seal of the Prophets—there is no prophet after me. A group from my ummah will remain manifest upon the truth, unharmed by those who oppose them, until the command of Allah—Exalted is He—comes.’ ”
Muslim, Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, and Ibn Mājah transmitted it through various chains from Abū Qilābah ʿAbd Allah ibn Zayd al-Jarmī, from Abū Asmāʾ ʿAmr ibn Marthad, from Thawbān ibn Bujdud, with similar wording. Al-Tirmidhī said: “ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.” (2)
Abū Dāwūd said: Hārūn ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abū Dāwūd al-Ḥafarī narrated to us, from Badr ibn ʿUthmān, from ʿĀmir, from a man, from ʿAbd Allah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“In this ummah there will be four tribulations; the last of them will bring annihilation.”

Abū Dāwūd further said: Yaḥyā ibn ʿUthmān ibn Saʿīd al-Ḥimṣī narrated to us; Abū al-Mughīrah narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Sālim related to me; al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿUtbah related to me, from ʿUmayr ibn Hāniʾ al-ʿAnsī, who said: I heard ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar say:
“We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he spoke at length about the tribulations, until he mentioned the Ahlas tribulation and said—”
