with the non-Arabs—they will be like lions that never flee; they will slay your fighting men and consume your spoils. (1)
Al-Bukhārī said: Abū al-Yamān related to us; Shuʿayb related to us, from al-Zuhrī, who informed me that Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib said that Abū Hurayrah said:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘The Hour will not be established until the buttocks of the women of Daws quiver in circumambulation around Dhū al-Khalasah.’ Dhū al-Khalasah was the idol of the tribe of Daws that they worshipped in the Days of Ignorance.” (2)
Al-Bukhārī also said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd al-Kindī related to us, from ʿUqbah ibn Khālid; ʿUbayd Allāh related to us, from Khubayb ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his grandfather Ḥafṣ ibn ʿĀṣim, from Abū Hurayrah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Soon the Euphrates will recede, uncovering a treasure of gold; whoever is present there must not take anything from it.”
ʿUqbah added: ʿUbayd Allāh also related to us—Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ—with the same wording, except that he said: “It will uncover a mountain of gold.”
Muslim likewise reported it from ʿUqbah ibn Khālid by both chains; he also related it through Qutaybah, from Yaʿqūb ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Suhayl, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said:
“The Hour will not come until the Euphrates lays bare a mountain of gold over which people will fight. Ninety-nine out of every hundred will be killed, and each man will say, ‘Perhaps I will be the one who survives.’” (3)
He further transmitted—through ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Hārith ibn Nawfal—who said: I was standing with Ubayy ibn Kaʿb in the shade of a ḥissān thicket (4) when he said, “People will keep stretching their necks in pursuit of the world.” I replied, “Indeed.” He said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘The Euphrates is about to reveal a mountain of gold. When people hear of it, they will set out for it, and those nearest to it will say, ‘If we leave people to take from it, they will carry it all away.’’ He then said, ‘They will fight over it, and ninety-nine out of every hundred will be killed.’” (5)
Al-Bukhārī said: Abū al-Yamān related to us; Shuʿayb informed us; Abū al-Zinād related to us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The Hour will not be established until two mighty factions fight and there is a great slaughter between them, yet their claim is the same; until liars—dajjāls—are sent, nearly thirty of them, each alleging that he is the Messenger of Allah; until knowledge is taken away; earthquakes multiply; time contracts; trials become manifest; al-harj increases”—he explained: “that means killing”—“until wealth abounds among you and overflows, so that the owner of property is distressed about finding someone to accept his charity, and when he offers it the person to whom it is offered says, ‘I have no need for it’; until people compete in erecting lofty buildings; and until a man passes by another man’s grave,”
