Muslim also narrated—in a fuller version—from Abū Bakrah a report to the same effect. (1)
Al-Bukhārī said: Muḥammad ibn Kathīr related to us; Sufyān related to us; al-Aʿmash related to us, from Zayd ibn Wahb, who said: Hudhayfah related to us:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us two reports; I have witnessed one of them and I am waiting for the other. He informed us that trustworthiness (amānah) first descended into the very roots of men’s hearts; thereafter they learned from the Quran, and then they learned from the Sunnah. He also told us how it will be taken away. He said:
‘A man will go to sleep, and the amānah will be snatched from his heart, leaving behind a trace like the mark of a faint spot (wakt). (2) Then he will sleep again, and it will be removed entirely, so that what remains is like the trace of a blister (majl) (3)—like an ember you have rolled across your foot so that it raises a swelling blister (4) while nothing remains inside. People will wake up and transact with one another, yet hardly anyone will discharge the trust. It will be said, “In the clan of so-and-so there is a trustworthy man,” and a man will be praised: “How intelligent, polished, and resolute he is!” while there is not in his heart so much as a mustard seed’s weight of faith. There was a time when I cared not with whom of you I traded: if he was a Muslim, his Islam would oblige him to return my due; and if he was a Christian, his tax-collector would return it to me. (5) But today, I will deal only with so-and-so and so-and-so.’”
Muslim likewise transmitted it from al-Aʿmash with the same wording. (6)
Al-Bukhārī also transmitted—through al-Zuhri from Sālim, from his father, and through al-Layth from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood beside the pulpit facing the east and said:
“Verily, tribulation is here, from the direction where the horn of Satan rises”—or he said, “the horn of the sun.”
Muslim narrated it as well through al-Zuhri and others from Sālim, from his father, and through al-Layth from Nāfiʿ; Aḥmad related it via ʿAbd-Allāh ibn Dīnār, and al-Ṭabarānī through ʿAṭiyyah—both from ʿAbd-Allāh ibn ʿUmar. (7)
Al-Bukhārī further said: Ismāʿīl related to us; Mālik related to me, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
“The Hour will not be established until a man passes by another man’s grave and says, ‘Would that I were in his place.’” (8)
Imam Aḥmad said: ʿAffān related to us; Ḥammād ibn Salamah related to us; Yūnus related to us, from al-Ḥasan, from Samurah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“It will not be long before Allah fills your hands with the non-Arabs.”
ʿAffān once reported it with the wording: “with …”
