In Ṣafar a massive fire broke out at Qaṣr Ḥajjāj, destroying a number of houses and many shops.

In Rabīʿ al-Awwal the sultan was blessed with a son; the drums of glad tidings were beaten in Damascus (1), and the city was adorned for several days.

In the middle of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir the amir Ṣārim al-Dīn Ibrāhīm al-Ḥājib—who lived opposite the Karīm al-Dīn Tablakhānah Mosque—was promoted to the rank of amir. He was among the leading disciples of Shaykh Taqī al-Dīn Ibn Taymiyyah (2) (may Allah have mercy on him), had fine and righteous intentions, and was himself a worthy man (3).

During the same month the caliph al-Mustakfī was released, being let out of the Tower on the eleventh of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir, after which he remained in his home (4).

On Friday, the twentieth of Jumādā al-Ākhirah, the Friday prayer was inaugurated in two mosques in Egypt. One had been built by the amir ʿIzz al-Dīn Aydamir ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Khuṭayrī, who died twelve days later—may Allah have mercy on him (5). The second had been erected by a woman called al-Sitt Ḥadaq, the wet nurse (6) of Sultan al-Nāṣir, near the Qanṭarat al-Sabāʿ (7).

In Shaʿbān the judge Shihāb al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn Sharaf ibn Manṣūr, the acting judge in Damascus, traveled to take up the judgeship of Tripoli; succeeding him as deputy was Shaykh Shihāb al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn al-Naqīb al-Baʿlabakkī.

That same month robes of investiture were conferred upon ʿIzz al-Dīn ibn Jamāʿah for the agency of the Bayt al-Māl in Egypt, and upon Ḍiyāʾ al-Dīn ibn Khaṭīb Bayt al-Ābār (8) for the office of ḥisbah in Cairo, in addition to his supervision of the awqāf and other duties he already held.

During that month the superintendent of Jerusalem was likewise granted the tablakhānah privilege, after which he returned to Jerusalem.

On the tenth of Ramadan two advance detachments—two thousand men—arrived in Damascus from Egypt on their way to the land of Sīs. Among them was ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn [al-Fārisī] (9); the scholars gathered to meet him, for he was one of the eminent Ḥanafīs and had authored works on ḥadith and other subjects.

On Monday, the tenth of Shawwāl, the Syrian pilgrimage caravan set out. Its amir was Bahādur Qabjaq, and its qadi was Muḥyī al-Dīn al-Ṭarābulusī, lecturer at the Ḥimṣīyah.
