On the second of Rabiʿ al-Awwal ʿAlāʾ al-Din ibn (1) al-Qalānsī donned a splendid robe of investiture in order to assume oversight of the dīwāns (2)—namely the Dīwān Mulk al-Umaraʾ and the bureau supervising the maristan—in succession to Amīn al-Din ibn al-ʿAssāl (3). Ibn al-ʿAssāl thereupon returned to the custodianship of the Great Dīwān.
On Thursday (4), the same date, ʿImād al-Din ibn al-Shīrāzī put on the robe of overseer of the Umayyad Mosque, replacing Ibn Marājil, who was dismissed with no replacement appointed. Jamāl al-Din ibn al-Fuwairah (5) then took over supervision of the prisoners in Ibn al-Shīrāzī’s stead.
On the last Thursday of Rabiʿ al-Awwal the qadi Sharaf al-Din (6) ʿAbd Allah ibn Sharaf al-Din Ḥasan, son of the ḥadith scholar Abū Mūsā ʿAbd Allah, son of the ḥadith scholar ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Maqdisī, donned the robe of the Hanbali judgeship in place of ʿIzz al-Din ibn al-Taqī Sulaymān—who had died, may Allah have mercy on him. He rode from Dār al-Saʿādah to the congregational mosque, where his letter of appointment was read beneath the Dome of the Eagle in the presence of the judges and dignitaries. He then proceeded to the Jawziyyah, where he rendered judgment, and afterwards to al-Ṣāliḥiyyah, still wearing the robe. On that very day he appointed his nephew ʿAbd Allah ibn Shihāb al-Din Aḥmad (7) as his deputy.
On the last day of Rabiʿ al-Ākhir the emir ʿAlāʾ al-Din Alṭanbughā (8) passed through Damascus on his way to take up the deputy-governorship of Aleppo in place of Arghun, who had died—may Allah’s mercy be upon him. The city’s deputy and the army went out to receive him.
At the beginning of Jumāda al-Ūlā the emir, the sharif Rumaythah ibn Abī Numay, arrived in Mecca. His patent appointing him Emir of Mecca on behalf of the Sultan was read in the company of the expeditionary force; he was invested with a robe, and the emirs dispatched from Egypt and Syria pledged allegiance to him inside the Kaʿbah. The troops themselves had reached Mecca on the seventh of Rabiʿ al-Awwal, encamping at Bāb al-Muʿallā, enjoying abundant opportunities for prayer and circumambulation, and bringing about a marked drop in prices.
On Saturday, the seventh of Rabiʿ al-Ākhir (9) the qadi ʿIzz al-Din ibn Badr al-Din ibn Jamāʿah was invested with the Sultan’s wakālah and with supervision of the Ibn Ṭulun Mosque and the al-Nāṣiriyyah foundation. The people offered him their congratulations, for he succeeded al-Tāj Isḥāq ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (10), who had died and been buried in the Qarāfah cemetery.
