In that same year, Nāṣir al-Dīn, the chief supervisor of the awqāf (pious endowments), travelled to take charge of Jerusalem and Hebron. There he erected many buildings on behalf of the commander of commanders, Tankiz, and opened two windows in al-Aqṣā, one to the right of the miḥrāb and another to its left.
