Among the eminent persons who passed away during this year were:
Shaykh al-Islam, the distinguished scholar Taqi al-Din Ibn Taymiyyah (1). His death has already been recorded in the chronicle of events, and—Allah willing—we shall devote to him a separate biography.
The noble, learned, ascetic, and ḥadith scholar (2) ʿIzz al-Din Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm (3) ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Muḥsin, an ʿAlawī Ḥusaynī of the Gharrāfī line (4), from Alexandria and of the Shāfiʿī school. He heard a great deal of ḥadith and committed to memory al-Wajīz fī’l-fiqh (5) and al-Īḍāḥ (6) on grammar. An ascetic with scant attachment to worldly things, he reached ninety years of age while his intellect, learning, and alertness remained undiminished. Born in 638 AH, he died on Friday, the 5th of Muḥarram, and was buried in Alexandria between the two Madīn towers—may Allah have mercy on him.
Al-Shams Muḥammad (7) ibn ʿĪsā al-Bakrī (8). He was courageous and resolute, standing before Shaykh Taqi al-Din Ibn Taymiyyah as the executor of whatever he commanded or forbade. Emirs and others would dispatch him on critical missions, and he possessed knowledge and chivalry, [delivering his charge in the most perfect manner] (9). He died on the 5th of Ṣafar at al-Qubaybāt and was buried near the Karīmī Mosque. May Allah the Exalted have mercy on him.
The righteous shaykh (10) Abū Bakr (11) ibn Sharaf ibn Muḥsin ibn Maʿn ibn ʿAmmār (12) al-Ṣāliḥī. Born in 653 AH, he heard extensively in the company of Shaykh Taqi al-Din Ibn Taymiyyah and al-Mizzī (13), and he was
