He was an elderly shaykh who possessed vast wealth, landed property, and other assets. He owned a ḥammām in Ḥikr al-Sammāq (3) and erected the caravanserai that bears his name—completed after his death—toward al-Katf al-Miṣrī, adjoining Ghabbāghib, in the plain of Marj al-Ṣuffar, from which many travellers have benefited. He died on the night of the nineteenth (4) of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir and was buried in his family plot at the foot of Mount Qasyūn. May Allah Most High have mercy on him.
In that same year, during Dhu al-Qaʿda, another man died whose name was Rukn al-Dīn Khaṭṭāb (5) son of the minister Kamāl al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn Aḥmad (6) ibn Khaṭṭāb al-Rūmī al-Sīwāsī. In his native city of Sivas (7) he had established a khānqāh endowed with abundant waqf properties, acts of benevolence, and charity. He passed away at al-Karak while on his way to the Noble Ḥijāz, and was buried near Jaʿfar and his Companions at Muʾta—may Allah have mercy on him.
In the last ten days of Dhu al-Qaʿda there died Badr al-Dīn Abū ʿAbd Allah Muḥammad (8) son of Kamāl al-Dīn Aḥmad son of Abū al-Fatḥ son of Abū al-Waḥsh Asad son of Salāmah son of Sulaymān son of Fatayān al-Shaybānī, known as Ibn al-ʿAṭṭār. Born in 670 AH, he heard a great quantity of ḥadith, mastered the elegant naskh script, studied al-Tanbīh, and composed poetry. He was appointed to the office of kitābat al-daraj, then placed in charge of the army registers and those of the Ashrāf. He enjoyed high favour in the days of al-Afram (9), after which his reputation waned somewhat. Though he lived in luxury and comfort, he combined wealth and leadership with humility and good conduct. He was buried in his family plot at the foot of Qasyūn—may Allah have mercy on him.
