In Shaʿbān the construction of the mosque that Tankiz had built outside Bab al-Naṣr was completed, and the first Friday prayer was held there on the tenth of Shaʿbān. The sermon was given by Shaykh Najm al-Dīn ʿAlī ibn Dāwūd ibn Yaḥyā al-Ḥanafī, known as al-Qaḥfāzī (1), a celebrated scholar proficient in many disciplines. The viceroy, the judges, the dignitaries, the Qur’an reciters, and the vocal chanters were all in attendance; it was a memorable day.
On the following Friday the khuṭbah was delivered in the Mosque of al-Qubaybāt, which Karīm al-Dīn, the sultan’s steward, had founded. Judges and notable figures were present, and the sermon was preached by Shaykh Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Yūsuf ibn al-Razīn (2) al-Ḥarrānī al-Āmidī (3) the Ḥanbalī—a man of great piety, marked by asceticism, devotion, spiritual discipline, a melodious voice, and dignified bearing.
On the eleventh of Ramaḍān Shaykh Shams al-Dīn ibn al-Naqīb (4) departed for Ḥimṣ to take up the governorship there, a post to which he had been warmly invited; the people went out to bid him farewell.
During the same month a powerful flood struck Salamiyah, and another of equal force hit al-Shūbak. The ceremonial mahmal set out on the ninth (5) of Shawwāl; commander of the caravan was Emir ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn ibn Saʿd (6), governor of the desert regions, while its judge was Zayn al-Dīn, son of the qāḍī of al-Khalīl and chief judge of Aleppo.
Among the dignitaries who performed the ḥajj that year were Shaykh Burhān al-Dīn al-Fazārī, Kamāl al-Dīn ibn al-Sharīshī together with his son, and Badr al-Dīn ibn al-ʿAṭṭār.
On the twenty-first of Dhū al-Ḥijjah Emir Fakhr al-Dīn Īyās (7) al-Asʿarī was transferred from supervising the fiscal bureaus in Damascus to Tripoli, where he assumed the emirate.
On Friday, the seventeenth (8) of Dhū al-Ḥijjah, the inaugural Friday prayer was held in the mosque built by al-Ṣāḥib Shams al-Dīn ibn Ghibriyāl, overseer of the bureaus in Damascus, outside Bab Sharqī (9). It stands beside the resting place of Dhirār ibn al-Azwar (may Allah be pleased with him) (10), near the quarter of al-Qaʿāṭilah. The sermon there was delivered by Shaykh Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad al-Tadmari, known
