He passed away in Rabiʿ al-Awwal in his orchard near al-Shibliyya (1) and was buried in a tomb he had prepared beneath its dome, at about seventy (2) years of age.
Shaykh Shabān ibn Abī Bakr ibn ʿUmar al-Arbilī (3), shaykh of the Ḥalabiyya lodge in the Umayyad Mosque, was a righteous, blessed man through whom much good was realized. He devoted himself to worship and to relieving the poor. His funeral was exceedingly well-attended; the prayer over him was held in the mosque after noon on Saturday, 29 Rajab, and he was buried in the Ṣūfiyya cemetery. He was eighty-seven years old. He transmitted a small number of hadith, and I compiled for him a mashyakha that the leading scholars attended. May Allah have mercy on him.
[One day earlier the deputy governor of Alexandria, Baktūt Amīr Shikār, died] (4).
Shaykh Nāṣir al-Dīn (5) Yaḥyā ibn Ibrāhīm (6) ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-ʿUthmānī served as custodian of the ʿUthmānic codex for nearly thirty years. The funeral prayer was performed for him after the Friday prayer on 7 Ramadan, and he was buried in the Ṣūfiyya cemetery. The deputy sultan, al-Afram, held him in high regard and frequently inquired after him. He reached the age of sixty-five.
The pious, eminent exemplar Shaykh Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad, son of the exemplary shaykh Ibrāhīm, son of Shaykh ʿAbd Allāh al-Armuwī (7), died on the 20th of Ramadan at the foot of Mount Qāsiyūn. Emirs, judges, and senior officials attended his funeral, and the prayer was held for him in the al-Muzaffarī Mosque (8). He was then buried beside his father, and on that day the Ṣāliḥiyya market was closed in his honor. He enjoyed high standing among the people and his intercession was accepted. Learned and affectionate, he compiled several fascicles on the reports concerning his grandfather (9), heard hadith, and was close to seventy years of age. May Allah have mercy on him.
