Two days later the investiture diploma of ʿIzz al-Dīn Ibn al-Qalansī arrived, reaffirming his charge as the sultan’s agent just as before, and stating that he had been excused from the vizierate because he disliked the post.
In Rajab, Ibn al-Salʿūs assumed supervision of the awqāf (pious endowments) in place of Shams al-Dīn Ibn ʿAdnān (1).
In Shaʿbān the viceroy of the sultanate (2) rode in person to the prison gates and released the inmates with his own hand, whereupon supplications for him multiplied in the markets and elsewhere.
On that same day the Ṣāḥib ʿIzz al-Dīn Ibn al-Qalansī arrived from Egypt, met the deputy, and received a robe of honor together with a letter expressing respect for him, confirming his continuance as the sultan’s agent and supervisor of the Privy Treasury, and rejecting the accusations lodged against him in Damascus, affirming that the sultan knew nothing of them and had issued no order concerning him. Assisting him in this were Karīm al-Dīn, overseer of the royal Privy Treasury, and Amīr Sayf al-Dīn Arghūn the dawādār (3).
Also in Shaʿbān Ibn Ṣaṣrā barred the professional witnesses and marriage registrars [from acting under his authority; others likewise abstained, and the Mālikī judge dismissed them] (4).
In Ramadan a courier arrived announcing the appointment of Zayn al-Dīn Katbughā al-Manṣūrī as ḥujūbiyyat al-ḥujjāb (chief of the chamberlains), and of Amīr Badr al-Dīn Baktūt al-Qaramānī as shadd al-dawāwīn (controller of the dīwāns) in place of Ṭūghān (6); robes of honor were conferred on them both (5).
That same year Bahādur al-Sinjarī, deputy of the Citadel of Damascus, sped by courier to Egypt, and the post was assigned to Sayf al-Dīn Balabān al-Badri. Al-Sinjarī returned at the end of the month (7) to assume the deputyship of al-Bīra and set out for it.
At the close of Ramadan (8) news arrived that a group of Muslim envoys bound for Baghdad had been seized; Ibn al-ʿUqāb and Ibn al-Badrī (9) were killed, while ʿUbayda escaped and reached safety.
The ceremonial maḥmal set out in Shawwāl, with Amīr al-Ḥajj ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Ṭaybughā, brother of Bahādur Āṣ, in command.
On the tenth (10) of Dhū al-Qiʿda word came that Amīr Qarāsunqur had turned back from the Ḥijāz road after reaching Barqa.
