In Rabīʿ al-Ākhir, Judge Shams al-Dīn Ibn al-Muʿizz al-Ḥanafī (1) began lecturing at the Ẓāhiriyyah in place of Shams al-Dīn Ibn al-Ḥarīrī. His inaugural lesson was attended by his maternal uncle, the Ṣadr ʿAlī, Chief Judge of the Ḥanafī school, together with the other judges and notables.
That same month the amir Sayf al-Dīn Asandamur arrived in Damascus on personal business. Because of his affection for Shaykh Ṣadr al-Dīn Ibn al-Wakīl, he secured for him a decree granting supervision of the Dār al-Ḥadīth and the professorship at the ʿAdhrāwiyyah. Before Ibn al-Wakīl could assume these duties, however, Asandamur departed. Two days later an incident occurred at the house of Ibn Darbās in al-Ṣāliḥiyyah: it was reported that certain reprehensible acts were discovered there, whereupon a group of Ṣāliḥiyyah residents—Hanbalis and others—rose against him. Word reached the viceroy, who wrote to the court about the matter; the reply ordered Ibn al-Wakīl’s removal from all religious offices. Consequently the Ashrafiyyah Dār al-Ḥadīth was taken from him, and he remained in Damascus with no position at all.
At the end of Ramaḍān he travelled to Aleppo, where the deputy Asandamur allotted him a stipend at the Great Mosque, then appointed him to teach there and treated him generously. Amir Asandamur had transferred to the Aleppo deputyship in Jumādā al-Ākhirah, replacing Sayf al-Dīn Qabjaq, who had died; after Qabjaq the rule of Ḥamāh passed to Amir ʿImād al-Dīn Ismāʿīl ibn al-Afḍal ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Taqī al-Dīn ʿUmar ibn Shāhinshāh ibn Ayyūb.
Jamāl al-Dīn Āqūsh al-Afram was moved from Ṣarkhad to the deputyship of Tripoli in place of al-Ḥājj Bahādur.
On Thursday, the sixteenth of Shaʿbān, Shaykh Kamāl al-Dīn Ibn al-Zamalkanī assumed the shaykhship of the Ashrafiyyah Dār al-Ḥadīth in place of Ibn al-Wakīl (2). He began teaching Qur’an exegesis, hadith, and jurisprudence, delivering commendable lessons; but he remained in office only fifteen days before Kamāl al-Dīn Ibn al-Shurayshī took it from him, assuming the post on Sunday, the third of Ramaḍān.
In Shaʿbān the Syrian viceroy Qarāsunqur ordered the enlargement of the maqsūrah: the muezzins’ platform was moved back to the two rear pillars beneath the Dome of the Eagle, and funeral processions were barred from entering the mosque for several days before permission was restored.
On the fifth of Ramaḍān, Fakhr al-Dīn Iyās (3)—formerly deputy at Qalʿat al-Rūm (4)—arrived in Damascus to serve as shād al-dawāwīn (overseer of the bureaus) in place of Zayn al-Dīn Katbughā al-Manṣūrī (5).
In Shawwāl Shaykh ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn ʿAlī ibn Ismāʿīl al-Qūnawī assumed the office of shaykh al-shuyūkh in Egypt, replacing
