[Rashīd al-Dīn the Hanafī] (8)
Al-Rashīd Saʿīd ibn ʿAlī ibn Saʿīd, known as Shaykh Rashīd al-Dīn the Hanafī, was the lecturer at the Shabliyyah. He composed many useful works and fine poetry. Among his verses are the following (9):
[Raml]
Say to anyone who fears that the blows of time will reach him—
no precaution can ward off destiny’s decrees. (10)
My conviction that everything unfolds by divine decree
has banished sadness from my heart. (11)
Another sample of his verse is: (12)
[Ṭawīl]
My God, praise belongs to You, as You are worthy,
for blessings—among them guidance that leads me to praise.
You created my body whole and sound,
and Your gracious care has been with me since the cradle.
I was an orphan surrounded by the threat of ruin;
You sheltered me and delivered me from every doom.
You granted me the intellect whose radiance (13)
directs every seeker of right guidance to all that is good.
You set my heart and tongue firm upon Islam—
what a blessing whose place (14) within me is beyond measure.
