to Sultan al-Malik al-Ẓāhir, having placed him under close guard. Al-Ẓāhir then stipulated that the people of Dongola must convey a yearly tribute to him. All of this took place in Shaʿbān of that same year.

In that year:
The marriage contract of al-Malik al-Saʿīd, son of al-Ẓāhir, to the daughter of Emir Sayf al-Din Qalāwūn al-Alfī was concluded in the great audience hall in the presence of the sultan and the dignitaries of state. The dower was set at 5,000 dinars, of which 2,000 were to be paid immediately. ⦗1⦘ The document was written and publicly read by Muḥyī al-Dīn ibn ʿAbd al-Ẓāhir ⦗2⦘, who received a reward of 100 dinars and was honored with a robe of distinction.

Later the sultan hastened to the fortress of al-Karak. He assembled the Qaymariyya troops stationed there—six hundred men—and ordered that they be hanged; but intercession was made on their behalf, so he pardoned them and banished them to Egypt. He had been informed that they intended to kill the garrison and proclaim one of their own as ruler. The fortress was entrusted to the eunuch Shams al-Din Riḍwān al-Suhaylī. The sultan then returned during the remainder of the month to Damascus, entering it on Friday, the eighteenth.

That same year an earthquake struck Khilāṭ and its tremors reached the lands of Diyār Bakr.
