And al-Muttaqī (1) succeeded him, after whom came al-Mustakfī (2); next was al-Muṭīʿ (3), who never broke his word.
Al-Ṭāʾiʿ (4), the ever-obedient, followed, then al-Qādir (5); after him rose al-Qāʾim (6), an ascetic and a grateful servant of his Lord.
Al-Muqtaḍī (7) then assumed the caliphate, and after him al-Mustazhir (8); he in turn was followed by the revered al-Mustarshid (9).
After him came al-Rashīd (10), then al-Muqtafī (11); and when he died, the people turned for help to Yūsuf (12).
Al-Mustaḍī (13) was upright in all his deeds and impeccably truthful in his words.
Al-Nāṣir (14) was a gallant, formidable ruler, and his long reign endured among the people.
He was succeeded by the generous al-Ẓāhir (15), whose justice was acknowledged by everyone; yet his days upon the throne were brief—only a few months—before death overtook him.
He entrusted authority to al-Mustanṣir (16), a just, devout man of noble lineage. He governed the people for seventeen years and some additional months with steadfast righteousness (17), then died in 640 AH, meeting his fate in the month of Jumada.
