Likewise, He—exalted is He—says:
“How many a town did I grant respite though it was doing wrong; then I seized it, and to Me is the final return.” (al-Ḥajj 22:48)
He, the Most High, also says:
“We let them enjoy themselves for a short while, then We shall drive them into a harsh punishment.” (Luqmān 31:24)
And He says:
“Say: Those who invent lies about Allah will never prosper—(69) a brief enjoyment in this world; then to Us is their return, after which We shall make them taste a severe punishment for their persistent disbelief.” (Yūnus 10:69-70)
He likewise says:
“So leave the disbelievers alone; give them respite—just for a little while.” (al-Ṭāriq 86:17)
وهكذا قوله تعالى:
﴿وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ أَمْلَيْتُ لَهَا وَهِيَ ظَالِمَةٌ ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهَا وَإِلَيَّ الْمَصِيرُ﴾
[الحج: ٤٨]

وقال تعالى:
﴿نُمَتِّعُهُمْ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ نَضْطَرُّهُمْ إِلَى عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ﴾
[لقمان: ٢٤]
.
وقال تعالى:
﴿قُلْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ
(٦٩)
مَتَاعٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ ثُمَّ نُذِيقُهُمُ الْعَذَابَ الشَّدِيدَ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ﴾
[يونس: ٦٩، ٧٠]

وقال تعالى:
﴿فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا﴾
[الطارق: ١٧]
