The Exalted says:
“Ask them for a ruling: Does your Lord have daughters while you have sons? Or did We create the angels as females and they were present to witness it? No indeed! Out of their own fabrications they claim, ‘Allah has begotten,’ and they are certainly liars. Has He chosen daughters over sons? What is the matter with you—how do you judge? Will you not take heed? Or do you have a clear authority? Then bring your scripture, if you are truthful. They have even made a lineage between Him and the jinn, yet the jinn know well that they will be brought before Him. Glorified is Allah above what they attribute to Him, except for the devoted servants of Allah.” (al-Ṣāffāt 149–160)
He also says:
“They say, ‘The Most Compassionate has taken a child.’ Exalted is He! Rather, they are honored servants; they never precede Him in speech and they act only by His command. He knows what lies before them and what lies behind them, and they do not intercede except for the one He approves. They themselves stand in awe of Him. If any of them were to say, ‘I am a god besides Him,’ We would repay him with Hell—thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.” (al-Anbiyāʾ 26–29)
The Almighty states at the beginning of Sūrah al-Kahf, a Makkan chapter:
“All praise is due to Allah, who sent down the Book to His servant and allowed in it no crookedness—an upright revelation to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give glad tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a fine reward, in which they will remain forever—and to warn those who say, ‘Allah has taken a child.’ They have no knowledge of this, nor did their forefathers. Grave indeed is the word that comes from their mouths; they speak nothing but a lie.” (18:1–4)
And He, Most High, says:
“They say, ‘Allah has taken a child.’ Glorified is He! He is the Self-Sufficient; to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. You have no proof for this claim. Do you attribute to Allah what you do not know? Say, ‘Those who fabricate lies about Allah will never prosper. They may enjoy themselves in this world for a little while, then to Us is their return; afterwards We shall make them taste a severe punishment for their disbelief.’” (Yūnus 68–70)
These noble Makkan verses constitute a comprehensive refutation of all the factions of unbelievers—philosophers, Arab polytheists, Jews, and Christians—who, without knowledge, alleged that Allah has a child. Exalted is He, far above what the wrongdoing aggressors assert.
Since the Christians—upon them is Allah’s continual curse until the Day of Resurrection—are the most renowned proponents of this claim, the Qur’an frequently mentions them in order to expose their contradictions, scant knowledge, and abundant ignorance. Their statements of disbelief are manifold, for falsehood is ever-branching, diverse, and self-contradictory, whereas the truth remains uniform and unshaken.
Allah the Exalted says: “Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would have found within it much discrepancy.” (al-Nisāʾ 82) This indicates that truth is coherent and harmonious, while falsehood is inconsistent and unstable.
Thus, one faction of their misguided and ignorant followers maintained that the Messiah is Allah—far exalted is He; another said, “He is the son of Allah”—magnified is He; and yet another claimed, “He is one of three”—glorified is He.
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says in Sūrah al-Māʾidah:
“They have certainly disbelieved who say, ‘Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.’ Say, ‘Who holds any power against Allah if He wished to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, his mother, and everyone on earth altogether?’ To Allah belongs the dominion…”
