to arrive was his brother al-Ashraf Musa, lord of al-Jazira—may Allah brighten his countenance—followed by al-Muʿaẓẓam; what befell them and the Franks will be recounted under the events of the following year.
In this year: the office of market inspector (ḥisba) in Baghdad was assigned to al-Ṣāḥib Muḥyī al-Dīn Yusuf, the son of Shaykh Abū al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzi ⦗1⦘. At the same time he continued to hold the public preaching session established by his father, and his administration of the ḥisba was warmly commended ⦗2⦘.
In the same year: al-Muʿaẓẓam entrusted to me ⦗3⦘ the supervision of the Badriyya mausoleum, opposite the Shibliyya madrasa near the bridge over the Thawra—also called Kuhayl Bridge. The mausoleum is attributed to Badr al-Dīn Ḥasan ibn al-Dāyya ⦗4⦘, who, together with his brothers, was among the leading amirs of Nūr al-Dīn Maḥmūd ibn Zanki.
(I add): Around 640 AH I turned it into a congregational mosque where the Friday sermon is delivered—praise be to Allah.
In this year: Sultan ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Tākish dispatched an envoy ⦗5⦘ to al-Malik al-ʿĀdil while the latter was encamped at Marj al-Ṣuffar. In return, al-ʿĀdil sent back with the envoy the preacher of Damascus, Jamāl al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Dawlaʿī ⦗6⦘⦗7⦘. Acting in his stead for the Friday sermon, he appointed Shaykh al-Muwaffaq ʿUmar ibn Yusuf ⦗8⦘, the khaṭīb of Bayt al-Abr, who remained at the ʿAzīziyya Mosque performing the duty until Jamāl al-Dīn returned—only to find that al-ʿĀdil had died ⦗9⦘, may Allah have mercy on him.
In this year: al-Malik al-Qāhir, ruler of Mosul, passed away. His young son ⦗10⦘ was installed in his place, but he was soon slain, the Atabeg household fragmented, and [the emir] Badr al-Dīn Luʾluʾ ⦗11⦘, formerly their father’s mamluk, Nūr al-Dīn Arslān ⦗12⦘, seized control of affairs.
In this year: the vizier Ṣafī al-Dīn ⦗13⦘ ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAlī ibn Shukr returned from the eastern regions—from Āmid to
