afflicted by an ailment of the nose that struck him every year during the rose-blossom season ⦗1⦘. He was unable to stay in Damascus until that season had ended, so a pavilion would be pitched for him on the Plain of al-Ṣuffar ⦗2⦘, after which he would enter the city. He died at the age of seventy-five—may Allah have mercy on him.
He left behind a number of sons: Muḥammad al-Kāmil ⦗3⦘, ruler of Egypt; ʿĪsā al-Muʿaẓẓam ⦗4⦘, ruler of Damascus; Mūsā al-Ashraf, ruler of al-Jazīra, Khilāṭ, Ḥarrān, and other territories; al-Awhad ⦗5⦘ Ayyūb, who predeceased him; al-Faʾiz ⦗6⦘ Ibrāhīm; al-Muẓaffar ⦗7⦘ Ghāzī, ruler of Edessa; al-ʿAzīz ⦗8⦘ ʿUthmān; al-Amjad ⦗9⦘ Ḥasan—both full brothers of al-Muʿaẓẓam; al-Mughīth ⦗10⦘ Maḥmūd; al-Ḥāfiẓ Arslān ⦗11⦘, ruler of Jaʿbar; al-Ṣāliḥ ⦗12⦘ Ismāʿīl; al-Qāhir ⦗13⦘ Isḥāq; Mujīr al-Dīn Yaʿqūb ⦗14⦘; Quṭb al-Dīn Aḥmad ⦗15⦘; Khalīl ⦗16⦘, the youngest of them; and Taqī al-Dīn ʿAbbās ⦗17⦘, the last of them to die, who lived on until the year 660 AH ⦗18⦘.
Among his daughters, the most renowned was al-Sitt Ṣafiyya ⦗19⦘ Khātūn, wife of al-Ẓāhir ⦗20⦘ Ghāzī, ruler of Aleppo, and mother of King al-ʿAzīz ⦗21⦘, the father of al-Nāṣir ⦗22⦘ Yūsuf, who reigned.
