Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Every child of Adam is touched by Satan with his finger, save Mary, daughter of ʿImrān, and her son Jesus.”
This wording is unique to this chain.
Muslim likewise related it (1) through Abū al-Ṭāhir, from Ibn Wahb, from ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith, from Abū Yūnus, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, with similar wording.
Imām Aḥmad (2) also reported: “Hushaym narrated to us; Ḥafṣ ibn Maysera narrated, from al-ʿAlāʾ, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
‘Every human being whom his mother delivers, Satan jabs him in his two flanks, except Mary and her son. Have you not seen how an infant screams when he is first delivered?’
They replied, ‘Indeed, O Messenger of Allah.’
He said, ‘That scream is because Satan jabbed him in his flanks.’ ”
This chain meets Muslim’s criteria, though he did not record it through this route.
Qays transmitted it from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abu Hurayrah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared:
“There is no newborn without Satan squeezing him once or twice, except Jesus son of Mary and Mary herself.” (5)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then recited: “I seek refuge for her and her offspring with You from Satan, the accursed” [Q 3:36].
Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq likewise narrated it from Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qusaiṭ, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ in the same sense (6).
Imām Aḥmad further said (7): “ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to us; al-Mughīrah—meaning Ibn [ʿAbd al-Raḥmān] ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥizāmī—narrated, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
‘Every son of Adam, Satan stabs him in his side when he is born; but when he went to stab Jesus son of Mary, he struck the veil instead.’ ”
This chain fulfills the conditions of both Ṣaḥīḥ collections, yet they did not include it through this path.
His words, “So her Lord accepted her with gracious acceptance, caused her to grow in a seemly growth, and placed her under the care of Zachariah,” recount that when her mother gave birth, she wrapped the child in cloth and carried her to the mosque,
