al-Bāqillānī and Shaykh Abū Ḥāmid al-Isfarāyīnī, together with a number of the leading imams after the year 400 AH, as we have explained above.
The point is that this impostor, this lying claimant, succeeded in spreading his fabrications in those regions; a band of ignorant devotees supported him, and he attained power, prominence, and might. He even built a city that he named al-Mahdiyya after himself and became an obeyed monarch who outwardly displayed radical Shiʿism (rafḍ) while inwardly harboring pure unbelief.
After him came his son al-Qāʾim Muḥammad (1), then his son al-Manṣūr Ismāʿīl, then his son al-Muʿizz Maʿadd—the first of them to enter Egypt, where al-Qāhira al-Muʿizziyya and the two palaces were built for him—followed by his son al-ʿAzīz Nizār, then his son al-Ḥākim Manṣūr, then his son al-Ẓāhir ʿAlī (2), then his son al-Mustanṣir Maʿadd, then his son al-Mustʿalī Aḥmad, then his son al-Āmir Manṣūr, then his cousin al-Ḥāfiẓ ʿAbd al-Majīd, then his son al-Ẓāfir Ismāʿīl, then al-Fāʾiz ʿAlī, and finally his cousin al-ʿĀḍid ʿAbd Allāh, who was the last of them.
