She died fifteen days later. She too was among the righteous—may Allah, exalted is He, have mercy on them both and be pleased with them (1).
[Then came the year 553 AH]
In this year:
The Turkmen (2) who followed Ibn Barjam al-Iwāʾī (3) spread widespread corruption. The caliph (4) therefore dispatched Mankurs al-Mustarshidī (5) at the head of a large army against them. They met in battle, [routed them with an utterly shameful defeat and returned] (6) to Baghdad bearing captives and severed heads.
In the same year: A great battle took place between the Ghuzz and King Maḥmūd (7); [they crushed his forces and killed vast numbers of his men and others] (8), plundered the countryside, and encamped at Marw. They then summoned him; fearing for his life, he sent his son ahead and they treated him honorably. The sultan (9) later came in person, whereupon they gathered around him and showed him great respect.
In the same year: A major conflict erupted in Marw between the Shāfiʿī jurist al-Muʿayyad ibn al-Ḥusayn and the naqib of the ʿAlawīs there, Abū al-Qāsim Zayd ibn al-Ḥasan. Many were killed, and the mosques, madrasas, and markets were burned (10), while al-Muʿayyad fled to one of the fortresses.
In the same year: al-Nāṣir li-Dīn Allah, Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad, son of al-Mustaḍīʾ bi-Amr Allah, was born.
In the same year: al-Muqtafī set out toward al-Anbār on a hunting expedition, crossed the Euphrates, visited al-Ḥusayn, proceeded to Wāsiṭ, and then returned to Baghdad without the vizier.
In the same year: The Egyptian army, accompanied by King al-Ṣāliḥ (12), inflicted a dreadful defeat (11) on the Franks in the region of ʿAsqalān.
