The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Allah took David from among his companions so that they were neither tested nor did they alter anything. By contrast, the companions of the Messiah remained upon his way and his guidance for two hundred years.”
This ḥadīth is strange, and its being raised to the Prophet is open to question. Al-Waḍīn ibn ʿAṭāʾ was weak in ḥadīth transmission (1). And Allah knows best.
(1) The expressions “in the hadith” and “Allah knows best” are not found in manuscript B. Al-Wuḍayn ibn ‘Aṭā’ ibn Kinānah al-Khaz‘ī: Ibn Hajar in al-Taqrīb describes him as ṣaduq (truthful), with poor memory, and accused of qadar (predestinarianism). He died in 156 AH.

هذا حديث غريب، وفي رفعه نظر. والوضين بن عطاء كان ضعيفاً في الحديث
