two basins and went in with them to Muʾnis al-Khādim. When Muʾnis saw them he pronounced the testimony of faith and cursed the man who had slain them. Al-Qāhir thereupon ordered, “Drag the dog by his leg!” So Muʾnis too was seized and slaughtered; his head was placed in a basin, and the heads were paraded through Baghdad while a crier proclaimed⦗1⦘: “Such is the recompense of anyone who betrays the Imām and strives to sow corruption in the state.” The heads were then returned to the arsenal.
In the month of Dhu al-Qaʿdah al-Qāhir arrested the vizier Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim ibn ʿUbayd Allāh and imprisoned him. He was suffering from colic, remained in custody for eighteen days, and died; his vizierate had lasted three months and twelve days. Al-Qāhir appointed in his place Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Aḥmad al-Khaṣībī⦗2⦘. He then arrested Ṭarīf al-Sabakrī [who had collaborated against Muʾnis and Ibn Bulaīq]⦗3⦘ and confined him; [hence the saying: “Whoever assists an oppressor, Allah will set that oppressor over him.”]⦗4⦘ Ṭarīf remained in prison until al-Qāhir himself was deposed.
That same year news arrived of the death of Takīn al-Khāṣṣa⦗5⦘ in Egypt and that his son Muḥammad had taken charge after him. Robes of investiture were dispatched to the latter by al-Qāhir biʾllāh in confirmation of his authority and to secure his position.
