Manṣūr ibn Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUmar (1): Abū al-Ḥasan the jurist (2), one of the leading authorities of the Shāfiʿī school. He authored several works on the madhhab and composed refined poetry. Ibn al-Jawzī says: “Shiʿite tendencies are evident in his verse. He had been a soldier, then lost his sight. He lived in Ramla and later came to Egypt, where he died.” (3)
Abū Naṣr al-Muḥibb (4): one of the Sufi shaykhs, noted for his generosity, openhandedness, and noble conduct (5).
Then the year 307 began.
In Ṣafar of that year a fire broke out in al-Karkh among the bean-sellers, and a great many people perished.
In Rabīʿ al-Ākhir roughly one hundred and fifty Georgian (6) captives were brought in, rescued by the amir Badr al-Ḥamāmī (7).
In Dhū al-Qaʿdah (8) a brilliant meteor streaked across the sky, split into three parts, and after it vanished a mighty, terrifying peal of thunder was heard although there were no clouds; Ibn al-Jawzī records the event (9).
That same year the Qarmaṭians entered Basra and spread rampant corruption there.
In the same year Ḥāmid ibn al-ʿAbbās was removed from the vizierate, and Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn ʿĪsā (10) was reinstated.

(2) In the ṭāʾ edition the reading al-faqīr (the poor) is a scribal error.
(3) Al-Muntaẓam (vol. 6, p. 152). Concerning his death, al-Subkī recounts the story in his ṭabaqāt (vol. 3, pp. 479–481).
(4) Al-Muntaẓam (vol. 6, pp. 152–153).
(5) In the ṭāʾ edition: “A questioner passed by, saying, ‘My intercessor for you is the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.’ Abū Naṣr tore his izār (wrapper) in half and gave him one part, then walked two steps, returned, handed him the other half, and said, ‘This is niggardliness.’”
(6) In the bāʾ, ẓāʾ and ṭāʾ editions the reading al-Karkh is a scribal error. Al-Karaj denotes a community of Christians who later seized Tiflis (Mu‘jam al-Buldān, vol. 4, p. 446).
(7) In the ṭāʾ edition the reading al-Humānī is a scribal error; his biography appears in Wafayāt al-A‘yān under the year 311 AH.
(8) In the ṭāʾ edition: “between two sieges.”
(9) Al-Muntaẓam (vol. 6, p. 153).
(10) In al-Uṣūl al-Khaṭiyya and in the ṭāʾ edition the name appears as Abū al-Ḥasan ibn al-Furāt for a third time, an error followed by the author from Ibn al-Jawzī in al-Muntaẓam (vol. 6, p. 153). Ibn al-Furāt was in fact imprisoned at that period (see Tārīkh al-Umaraʾ by al-Ṣābi‘, p. 33; al-Kāmil by Ibn al-Athīr, vol. 8, p. 117).
