That same year al-Maʾmūn ordered the execution of Yaḥyā ibn ʿĀmir ibn Ismāʿīl, for the man had addressed him, “O Commander of the unbelievers!” He was put to death, bound, in the caliph’s presence.
That year the people’s pilgrimage was led by Muḥammad ibn al-Muʿtaṣim ibn Hārūn al-Rashīd.
During the same year the following notable figures passed away:
– Asbaṭ ibn Muḥammad;
– Abū Ḍamrah Anas ibn ʿIyāḍ;
– Salm (1) ibn Qutaybah;
– ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid;
– Ibn Abī Fudayk;
– Mubashshir ibn Ismāʿīl;
– Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayr (2);
– and Muʿādh ibn Hishām.
(1) In the original it reads “Muslima,” but the correct reading is the one we have established.
(2) In the original it reads “Muhammad ibn Jubayr,” which is incorrect.
وفيها قتل المأمونُ يحيى بن عامر بن إسماعِل لأنه قال للمأمون:
يا أميرَ الكافرين. فقُتل صبرًا بين يديه.
وفيها حجَّ بالناسِ محمدُ بن المعتصِم بن هارون الرشيد.
وفيها تُوفي من الأعيان:
أسباطُ بن محمد.
وأبو ضَمْرَة أنس بن عياض.
