Layth reports from Mujāhid that, regarding the Almighty’s words, “Indeed, those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast” (Fussilat 41:30), he said: “They remained upright and never committed shirk until they died.
Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd relates, through Sufyān, from Ibn Abjar, from Ṭalḥah ibn Muṣarraf, from Mujāhid, that concerning, “And there is none comparable to Him” (al-Ikhlāṣ 112:4), he said: “meaning a spouse.”
Layth also transmits from Mujāhid that he said: “The ant that spoke to Solomon was the size of a great wolf.”
Al-Ṭabarānī transmits, through Abū Najīḥ, from Mujāhid, that he said: “A youth from the people of ʿĀd would not reach puberty until he was two hundred years old.”
He likewise said, about the verse, “A questioner asked” (al-Maʿārij 70:1): “that is, a supplicant invoked.”
Regarding, “abundant water (16) so that We might test them in it” (al-Jinn 72:16-17), he commented: “until they return to what I know concerning it.”
On, “they do not associate anything with Me” (al-Nūr 24:55), he said: “They do not love anyone besides Me.”
On, “Those who plot evil deeds” (Fāṭir 35:10), he said: “They are the ostentatious.”
Concerning, “Tell those who believe to forgive those who do not look forward to the Days of Allah” (al-Jāthiyah 45:14), he said: “They are people who do not know whether Allah has favored them or not.” Then he recited, “And remind them of the Days of Allah” (Ibrāhīm 14:5), and said: “His Days are His blessings and His punishments.”
Regarding, “Refer it back to Allah and the Messenger” (al-Nisāʾ 4:59), he said: “Refer it to the Book of Allah and to His Messenger as long as he is alive; once he has passed away, then to his Sunnah.”
On the verse, “He has lavished upon you His blessings, both outward and inward” (Luqmān 31:20), he said: “The outward ones are Islam, the Quran, the Messenger, and provision; the inward are what He has concealed of faults and sins.”
Al-Ḥakam relates from Mujāhid that when some women came to Solomon—peace be upon him—in Mecca, they saw a large stack of firewood and said to Solomon’s servant, “Does your master know how much the smoke of this wood weighs?” The servant replied, “Leave my master aside; I myself know how much its smoke weighs—so what do you think of my master?” She asked, “Then how much is it?” He answered, “The wood is weighed, then burned, and its ashes are weighed; whatever has diminished is the weight of its smoke.”
He said, concerning Allah’s words, “Whoever does not repent—such people are truly the wrongdoers” (al-Ḥujurāt 49:11): “Whoever fails to repent both morning and evening is among the wrongdoers.”
He also said: “No day passes in this world without that day saying, ‘Praise be to Allah who has relieved me of the world and its people.’ It is then folded up and sealed until the Day of Resurrection, when Allah—Exalted is He—breaks its seal.”
