Al-Nasāʾī has likewise recorded it in the ḥadīth of al-Fatūn—as will be mentioned—through the isnād of al-Qāsim ibn Abī Ayyūb from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr. (1)
Ibn Jarīr (2) transmitted it from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Ṭūsī, and Ibn Abī Ḥātim from his father, both of them from al-Ḥumaydī, from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, who said: “I was informed by Ibrāhīm ibn Yaḥyā ibn Abī Yaʿqūb, from al-Ḥakam ibn Abān, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘I asked Gabriel, Which of the two terms did Moses complete?’ He replied, ‘The fuller and more perfect of the two.’ ” (4) This Ibrāhīm is unknown except for this report.
Al-Bazzār has also narrated it from Aḥmad ibn Abān al-Qurashī, from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, from Ibrāhīm ibn Aʿyan, from al-Ḥakam ibn Abān, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from the Prophet ﷺ (5) with the same wording.
Sunayd related it from Ḥajjāj, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujāhid—mursal—that the Messenger of Allah asked Gabriel about the matter; Gabriel asked Isrāfīl, and Isrāfīl asked the Lord—Glorified and Exalted is He—who said, “The most righteous and the most faithful of the two.”
A similar version was recorded by Ibn Abī Ḥātim through the mursal report of Yūsuf ibn Sarḥ.
Ibn Jarīr (6) likewise narrated, by way of Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, “Which of the two terms did Moses fulfill?” He replied, “The more complete and more perfect of the two.”
Al-Bazzār and Ibn Abī Ḥātim have further transmitted—through ʿUbayd ibn Abī ʿImrān al-Jawnī, who is weak—from his father, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ṣāmit, from Abū Dharr, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, “Which of the two terms did Moses fulfill?” He said, “The more fully fulfilled of the two.”
