He was buried in al-Muḥaṣṣab and was the last of the Companions to die in Mecca. Among his children were: Abū Bakr, Abū ʿUbaydah, Wāqid, ʿAbd Allah, ʿAmr, Ḥafṣah, and Sawdah—their mother was Ṣafiyyah bint Abī ʿUbayd, the sister of al-Mukhtār; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Sālim, ʿUbayd Allah, and Ḥamzah, whose mother was an umm walad (a concubine who had borne him children); and Zayd and ʿĀʾishah, likewise born to an umm walad. He transmitted 2,630 hadiths (1).
Ubayd ibn ʿUmayr (2) ibn Qatadah ibn Saʿd ibn ʿĀmir ibn Jundʿa ibn Layth—al-Laythī, then al-Jundʿaʾī—Abū ʿĀṣim, the Meccan preacher of its people.
Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj (4) said: “He was born during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ.” Others added: “He also saw him.”
He narrated from his father, who was a Companion, and from ʿUmar, ʿAlī, Abū Hurayrah, Ibn ʿAbbās, Ibn ʿUmar, and Umm Salamah, among others. A number of the Successors and those after them reported from him. Ibn Maʿīn, Abū Zurʿah, and many others declared him reliable.
Ibn ʿUmar would sit in his circle and weep, finding his admonition pleasing. He was eloquent, and would weep until the pebbles before him were soaked with his tears.
Mahdī ibn Maymūn relates from Ghaylān ibn Jarīr that when Ubayd ibn ʿUmayr formed a bond of brotherhood with someone for Allah’s sake, he would turn with him to face the qiblah and say:

Al-Bukhārī (5) reported from Ibn Jurayj that Ubayd ibn ʿUmayr died before Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him).
Abū Juḥayfah (6)—Wahb ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Suwaʾī—was a Companion who saw the Prophet ﷺ and had not yet reached puberty when the Prophet passed away. Nevertheless, he related a number of hadiths from him, and from ʿAlī and al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib. A group of the Successors transmitted from him, among them
