Imam Aḥmad said:
Anas ibn ʿIyāḍ narrated to us; Yazīd ibn Khuṣayfah narrated to us, [from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ṣaʿṣaʿah] (1) via ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from al-Sāʾib ibn Khallād, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever frightens the people of Madinah without right, Allah will frighten him; upon him rests the curse of Allah, the angels, and all mankind, and on the Day of Resurrection Allah will accept from him neither compensation nor ransom.” (2)
Al-Nasāʾī (3) also transmitted the ḥadīth through several routes: from ʿAlī ibn Ḥujar, from Ismāʿīl ibn Jaʿfar, from Yazīd ibn Khuṣayfah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ṣaʿṣaʿah, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from [the son of] (4) Khallād ibn Manjūf al-Khazrajī … who reported it and mentioned the wording.
Al-Humaydī likewise related it from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Ḥāzim, from Yazīd ibn Khuṣayfah.
Al-Nasāʾī also (5) narrated it from Yaḥyā ibn Ḥabīb ibn ʿArabī, from Ḥammād, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Muslim ibn Abī Maryam, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Ibn Khallād—who was one of the Prophet’s Companions ﷺ—and he cited the same wording.
Ibn Wahb said: Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ informed me, from Ibn al-Hād, from Abū Bakr, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from al-Sāʾib ibn Khallād, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declare, “Whoever frightens the people of Madinah, Allah will frighten him; upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people.” (6)
Al-Dāraqutnī said: ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; Abū Zakariyyāʾ Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Anīs al-Anṣārī narrated to us, from Muḥammad and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, the two sons of Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who said:
“We went out with our father on the day of al-Ḥarra when his sight had gone. He exclaimed, ‘May ruin befall whoever terrifies the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!’ We asked, ‘Father, does anyone terrify the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?’ He replied, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Whoever frightens the people of this clan of the Anṣār has frightened all that lies between these two,”’—and he placed his hands on his flanks. (7)
Al-Dāraqutnī added: Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd (8) is the sole transmitter of this ḥadīth, both in wording and chain of narration.
