Al-Tirmidhi likewise transmitted it (1), through ʿUqbah ibn Mukram, from Wahb ibn Jarir, from his father, from Muhammad ibn Abi Yaʿqub, to the same effect: A man from Iraq asked Ibn ʿUmar about the blood of a mosquito that had soiled a garment. Ibn ʿUmar replied, “Look at the people of Iraq! They enquire about the blood of a mosquito after they themselves slew the grandson of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.” He then conveyed the rest of the narration and concluded, “It is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.”
Imam Ahmad said: Abū Ahmad narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us, from Abū al-Jaḥḥāf (2), from Abū Ḥāzim, from Abū Hurayrah, who reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever loves them has loved me, and whoever detests them has detested me,”—meaning al-Hasan and al-Husayn (3).
Imam Ahmad also said: Talid ibn Sulaymān—of Kūfah—narrated to us; Abū al-Jaḥḥāf narrated to us, from Abū Ḥāzim, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, looked upon ʿAli, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and Fāṭimah and declared, “I am at war with whoever wars against you, and at peace with whoever is at peace with you.” (4) Both of these traditions are unique to Imam Ahmad (5).
Imam Ahmad further said: Ibn Numayr (6) narrated to us; Ḥajjāj—meaning Ibn Dīnār—narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Iyās, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Masʿūd, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, once came out to us with al-Hasan and al-Husayn—one upon each of his shoulders. He kissed this one and then that one until he reached us. A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, you truly love them!” He answered, “Whoever loves them has loved me, and whoever detests them has detested me.” This report is found only in Ahmad (7).
Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī said: Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj narrated to us; ʿUqbah ibn Khālid narrated to me; Yūsuf ibn Ibrāhīm al-Tamīmī narrated to me that he heard Anas ibn Mālik say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked, “Which members of your household are dearest to you?” He replied, “Al-Hasan and al-Husayn.” He would also say to [Fāṭimah] (8), “Call my two sons,” and he would inhale their fragrance and clasp them to his chest (9).
