Imam Ahmad said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, and Ibn Salamah narrated to us (1), from ʿAmmār, who said: I heard Umm Salamah say, “I heard the jinn weeping over Ḥusayn; I heard the jinn lamenting for Ḥusayn.”
Al-Ḥusayn ibn Idrīs also transmitted it, from Hāshim ibn Hāshim, from his mother, from Umm Salamah, who said: “I heard the women of the jinn mourning for Ḥusayn while they recited:
O you who in your ignorance slew Ḥusayn—
rejoice in the chastisement and the dreadful scourge!
Every dweller of heaven invokes curses upon you—
prophet, messenger, and angelic host alike.
You have been cursed upon the tongue of David’s son,
of Moses, and of the bearer of the Gospel.” (2)
Another chain from Umm Salamah contains different verses of poetry; Allah knows best.
Al-Khaṭīb said: Aḥmad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Mayyāḥ (3) al-Sukkarī informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ibrāhīm al-Shāfiʿī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Shaddād al-Mismaʿī narrated to us; Abū Nuʿaym narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh (4) ibn Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit narrated to us, from his father, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
“Allah, exalted be He, revealed to Muḥammad ﷺ: ‘I killed, because of Yaḥyā ibn Zakarīyā, seventy thousand; and I shall kill, because of the son of your daughter, seventy thousand and seventy thousand.’” (5)
This report is exceedingly strange, and it was also related by al-Ḥākim in his Mustadrak (6). Al-Ṭabarānī likewise mentions here some very unusual traditions.
The Shīʿah have gone to extremes concerning the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, forging numerous blatantly false ḥadīths: that the sun was eclipsed on that day until the stars appeared; that no stone was lifted without blood being found beneath it; that the horizons of the sky turned red; that the sun rose with rays the color of blood and the sky looked like a clot (7); that the heavenly bodies collided with one another; that the sky rained red blood; and that the redness in the sky had never been seen before that day—and the like.
