They likewise put Shechem and his father Hamor to the sword for the atrocious wrong they had committed, compounded by their disbelief and the idols they worshipped. For that reason the sons of Jacob killed them and took their possessions as booty.
Rachel then conceived and gave birth to a son—Benjamin—but she struggled mightily in labor and died shortly thereafter. Jacob buried her at Ephrath, that is, Bethlehem, and set up a stone monument over her grave; those very stones are still known today as Rachel’s Tomb.
The male children of Jacob numbered twelve:
• From Leah: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;
• From Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin;
• From Rachel’s maidservant: Dan and Naphtali;
• From Leah’s maidservant: Gad and Asher—may peace be upon them all.
Jacob later went to his father Isaac and stayed with him in Hebron, in the land of Canaan, where Abraham had once lived. Isaac became ill and died at the age of one hundred and eighty. His two sons, Esau and Jacob, buried him beside his father Abraham—the Close Friend of Allah—in the cave he had purchased, as mentioned earlier.
