with his head lowered beneath the ṣūr (stone shelter) and saying:
“O Allah, if You will, make it ʿAlī.”
ʿAlī then arrived. Afterwards the Anṣārī woman slaughtered a sheep for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and prepared it; he ate and we ate with him. When the time for ẓuhr came he rose to pray and we prayed, without renewing our ablution, and when ʿaṣr came he prayed and we prayed, again without renewing ablution.

Abū Yaʿlā (1) said: Ḥasan ibn Ḥammād al-Kūfī narrated to us; Ibn Abī Ghuniyyah narrated to us, from his father, from al-Shaybānī, from Jumayʿ ibn ʿUmayr (2), who said: I entered with my father upon ʿĀʾishah and asked her about ʿAlī. She said, “I never saw a man more beloved to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than he, nor a woman more beloved to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than his wife.” More than one of the Shīʿah have transmitted this report from Jumayʿ ibn ʿUmayr with this wording.

Imām Aḥmad (3) said: Yaḥyā ibn Abī Bukayr narrated to us; Isrāʾīl narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Jadali (4), who said: I entered upon Umm Salamah and she said to me, “Is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reviled among you?” I replied, “Allah forbid—glory be to Allah,” or words to that effect. She said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
‘Whoever reviles ʿAlī has reviled me.’”
Abū Yaʿlā (5) also reported: from ʿUbayd Allah ibn Mūsā, from ʿĪsā ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Bajali—of Bajīlah from Sulaym—from al-Suddī, from Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Jadali (4), who said: Umm Salamah said to me, “Is the Messenger of Allah reviled among you from the pulpits?” I said, “How could that be?” She replied, “Is not ʿAlī, and those who love him, being reviled? I testify that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ loved him.”
This has also been related from Umm Salamah through other lines of transmission.
It is further reported in her narration, and in that of Jābir and Abū Saʿīd, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ʿAlī:
“A liar is the one who claims to love me while hating you,”
but all of these chains are weak and cannot be used as evidence.
