Sīf, from ʿUbayd Allah (1) ibn Mūsā, from Fiṭr, from Ḥakīm ibn Jubayr, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAlī, who said: “I was ordered to fight the breakers (al-nākithīn), the unjust (al-qāsitīn), and the renegades (al-māriqīn).”

Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb al-Baghdādī (2) said: Al-Azharī informed me; Muḥammad ibn al-Muẓaffar narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Thābit narrated to us, saying: “I found in my grandfather Muḥammad ibn Thābit’s notebook: Ashʿath (3) ibn al-Ḥasan al-Sulamī narrated to us, from Jaʿfar al-Aḥmar, from Yūnus ibn al-Arqam, from Abān, from Khulaid al-ʿAṣarī (4), who said: ‘I heard ʿAlī, Commander of the Believers, on the day of Nahrawān, say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed me to fight the breakers, the renegades, and the unjust (5).’”

Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū al-Qāsim ibn ʿAsākir likewise transmitted it on the authority of Muḥammad ibn Nūḥ al-Jandīsābūrī: Hārūn ibn Isḥāq informed us; Abū Ghassān narrated to us, from Jaʿfar—presumably al-Aḥmar—from ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Hamadānī, from Anas ibn ʿAmr, from his father, from ʿAlī, who said: “I was ordered to fight three: the renegades, the unjust, and the breakers.”

Al-Ḥākim Abū ʿAbd Allah said: Abū al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Ghanm al-Ḥanẓalī at the Bardān bridge informed us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAṭiyyah ibn Saʿd al-ʿAwfī narrated to us; my father narrated to me; my uncle ʿAmr ibn (6) ʿAṭiyyah ibn Saʿd, from his brother al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAṭiyyah, narrated to us; my grandfather Saʿd ibn Junādah narrated to us, from ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: “I was commanded to fight three: the unjust, the breakers, and the renegades. The unjust are the people of Syria; the breakers he mentioned; and the renegades are the people of Nahrawān—that is, the Ḥarūriyyah (7).”

Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAsākir (8) said: Abū al-Qāsim Zāhir (9) ibn Ṭāhir informed us; Abū Saʿd al-Adīb informed us; al-Sayyid Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Ṣūfī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr al-Bāhilī narrated to us; Kathīr ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us; Abū ʿAwnah narrated to us, from Abū al-Jārūd, from Zayd ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī, from his father, from his grandfather, from ʿAlī, who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed me to fight the breakers, the renegades, and the unjust.”
