Abū Kāmil narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wāḥid narrated to us; Sulaimān al-Shaybānī narrated to us through this same chain and said:
“From it there will emerge a number of people.”
Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah and Isḥāq both transmitted from Yazīd. Abū Bakr said: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, from al-ʿAwām ibn Ḥawshab; Abū Isḥāq al-Shaybānī narrated to us, from Yusair ibn ʿAmr, from Sahl ibn Ḥunayf, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“A people will go astray (1) toward the East, their heads shaven.”
[Hadith Ten: on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās]
Al-Bazzār (al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr) said: Yūsuf ibn Mūsā narrated to us; al-Ḥasan ibn al-Rabīʿ narrated to us; Abū al-Aḥwaṣ narrated to us, from Simāk, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Some people from my community will recite the Quran (2), yet they will dart out of the religion just as an arrow darts through its target.”
Ibn Mājah (3) also related it through Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah and Suwayd ibn Saʿīd, both of them from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, with the same chain.
[Hadith Eleven: on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar]
Imām Aḥmad (4) said: Yazīd narrated to us; Abū Janāb (5) Yaḥyā ibn Abī Ḥayyah (6) narrated to us, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, who said: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
“A people will arise from my community who commit evil deeds. They recite the Quran, yet it does not pass beyond their throats. One of you would regard his own deeds as paltry compared with theirs. They will kill the Muslims, so when they appear, kill them. Glad tidings to the one who kills them, and glad tidings to the one they kill. Whenever one of their horns rises, Allah cuts it off; whenever one of their horns rises, Allah cuts it off.”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept repeating this twenty times or more while I was listening. Aḥmad alone transmitted it through this route.
It is also authentically reported from Sālim and Nāfiʿ, on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said (7):
“The tribulation is from here—from the direction where the horn of Satan rises,” and he pointed with his hand toward the East.
