Suwayd ibn ʿUbayd al-ʿAjlī narrated to us; Abū Muʾammin narrated to us. He said:
“I was present with ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib on the day he slew the Ḥarūriyya. I was standing with my patron when ʿAlī said, ‘Search, for among them there is a man whose one hand is like a woman’s breast; the Prophet ﷺ informed me that I would confront him.’ They turned over the dead but did not find him. They said, ‘Seven men beneath the palm-tree have not yet been examined.’ He said, ‘Woe to you! Look there.’”
Abū Muʾammin continued: “I saw two ropes tied to the man’s legs; they were dragging him until they threw him down in front of ʿAlī. ʿAlī fell in prostration and said, ‘Rejoice! Your slain are in Paradise while theirs are in the Fire.’”
Al-Bazzār then said: “We do not know Abū Muʾammin (1) to have narrated from ʿAlī except this ḥadith.

Al-Bazzār (2) said: Yūsuf ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Isḥāq ibn Sulaymān al-Rāzī narrated to us; I heard Abū Sinān, from Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit, who said:
“I said to Shaqīq ibn Salamah—meaning Abū Wāʾil—‘Tell me about the man with the extra breast.’ He replied: ‘When we fought them, ʿAlī said, “Search for a man whose mark is such-and-such.” We searched but did not find him, so ʿAlī wept and said, “Look for him, for by Allah, I have neither lied nor been lied to.”’
(We searched but did not find him, so he wept and said, ‘Search for him, for by Allah, I have neither lied nor been lied to.’)
‘We searched again and still did not find him, so ʿAlī mounted his dapple-grey mule. We searched once more and discovered him beneath some reeds. When ʿAlī saw him, he prostrated.’
Al-Bazzār added: “We do not know Ḥabīb to have related from Shaqīq on the authority of ʿAlī except this ḥadith (3).

ʿAbd Allah ibn Aḥmad (4) said: ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿAmr al-Qawārīrī narrated to me; Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated to us; Jamīl (5) ibn Marrah narrated to us, from Abū al-Waḍīʾ, who said:
“I witnessed ʿAlī when he defeated the people of al-Nahrawān. He said, ‘Look for the maimed man.’ They searched among the slain and said, ‘We cannot find him.’ He said, ‘Go back and look for him, for by Allah, I have not lied nor have I been lied to.’ They returned and searched, and he repeated that several times, each time swearing by Allah, ‘I have not lied nor have I been lied to.’ They finally found him beneath the corpses in the mud, pulled him out, and brought him.”
Abū al-Waḍīʾ said: “It is as if I can still see him: a dark-skinned man, one of whose hands was overgrown by a breast like that of a woman, upon which were a few hairs like those on a jerboa’s tail (6).”
Abū Dāwūd (7) also related this from Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd ibn Ḥisāb (8), from Ḥammād ibn Zayd: ‘Jamīl ibn Marrah narrated to us; Abū al-Waḍīʾ—whose name is ʿAbbād ibn Nasīb—narrated to us,’ but he abbreviated the report.
