from Abu Hisham (1), from Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ʿAmmar:
“ The rebellious faction will kill you.”
Muslim (2) likewise transmitted—through Shuʿbah, from [Abu Maslamah, from] (3) Abu Nadrah, from Abu Saʿid—who said: “Someone better than I, meaning Abu Qatadah, related to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ʿAmmar:
“The rebellious faction will kill you.”
Muslim (4) also recorded, via Shuʿbah, from Khalid al-Hadhdhaʾ, from al-Hasan and Saʿid ibn Abi al-Hasan, from their mother Khayrah, from Umm Salamah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ʿAmmar:
“The rebellious faction will kill you.”
He (5) further reported it from Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, from Ibn ʿUlayyah, from Ibn ʿAwn, from al-Hasan, from his mother, from Umm Salamah with the same wording; in another version it adds: “and the one who kills him is in the Fire.”
Al-Bayhaqi (6) narrated—through al-Hakim and others—from al-Aṣamm, from Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Isḥaq al-Ṣaghani, from Abu al-Jawwāb, from ʿAmmar ibn Ruzayq, from ʿAmmar al-Duhni, from Salim ibn Abi al-Jaʿd, from Ibn Masʿud, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say (about ʿAmmar):
“When people differ, the son of Sumayyah will be with the truth.”
Ibrahim ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Dayzil said in his “Life of ʿAli”: Yahya ibn ʿUbayd (7) Allah al-Karabisi narrated to us; Abu Kurayb narrated to us; Abu Muʿawiyah narrated to us, from ʿAmmar ibn Ruzayq, from ʿAmmar al-Duhni, from Salim ibn Abi al-Jaʿd, who said: A man came to Ibn Masʿud and asked, “Allah has guaranteed that He will not wrong us, but He has not guaranteed that He will not test us. Tell me, when a trial descends, what should I do?” He replied, “Hold fast to the Book of Allah.” I said, “Suppose a group appears, all of them claiming to call to the Book of Allah?” He answered, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
“When (8) people fall into disagreement, the son of Sumayyah will be with the truth.”
Ibn Dayzil also transmitted from ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ himself a report mentioning ʿAmmar and affirming that he is with the truth; its isnad is unusual.
Al-Bayhaqi (9) further related: ʿAli ibn Ahmad ibn ʿAbdan informed us; Ahmad ibn ʿUbayd al-Asfati informed us; Abu Muṣʿab narrated to us; (10) Yusuf ibn al-Majishun narrated to us, from his father, from Abu ʿUbaydah ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAmmar ibn Yasir,
