Musʿar (1) narrated—from ʿAṭiyyah, from Abū Saʿīd—who said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, from the start of the night until dawn broke, with his hands raised in supplication for ʿUthmān, saying: ‘O Allah, as for ʿUthmān— I am pleased with him, so be pleased with him.’ ”
In another wording he said to ʿUthmān (2): “May Allah forgive you your earlier and later sins, those you have kept hidden and those you have made public, everything that has issued from you and everything that will yet issue from you until the Day of Resurrection.”
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿArafah also transmitted this—from Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim al-Asadī, from al-Awzāʿī, from Ḥassān ibn ʿAṭiyyah—from the Prophet ﷺ as a mursal report.
Ibn ʿAdī (3) narrated—through Abū Yaʿlā, from ʿAmmār Abū Yāsir al-Mustamlī, from Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm al-Mustamlī, from Abū Isḥāq, from Abū Wāʾil, from Ḥudhayfah—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to ʿUthmān asking his support for a campaign he was undertaking. ʿUthmān thereupon sent him ten thousand dīnārs, which were placed before him. The Prophet began turning them over with his hands while praying for him: “May Allah forgive you, O ʿUthmān, for what you have concealed and what you have disclosed, for what you have hidden and for what is yet to be, until the Day of Resurrection; after this, ʿUthmān need not worry about anything he does.”

Layth ibn Abī Sulaym (4) said: “The first person to prepare khabees—a sweet made by mixing honey with al-naqī (5) (refined wheat flour)—was ʿUthmān. He mixed the two together and sent the dish to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the house of Umm Salamah. Not finding him there, they kept it until he arrived and placed it before him. He asked, ‘Who sent this?’ They replied, ‘ʿUthmān.’ She said: He then raised his hands toward heaven and said, ‘O Allah, ʿUthmān seeks Your pleasure, so be pleased with him.’ ”

Abū Yaʿlā (6) related—from Shaybān ibn Farrūkh, from Ṭalḥah ibn Zayd, from ʿUbaydah (7) ibn Ḥassān, from ʿAṭāʾ al-Kaykhārānī, from Jābir—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ embraced ʿUthmān and said: “You are my ally in this world and my ally in the Hereafter.” (8)
