Al-Zāhid, the governor of Ḥimṣ. Muhammad ibn Saʿd records that he died at al-Qādisiyyah and states (1): “That was in the year sixteen AH, and Allah knows best.”
Suhayl ibn ʿAmr (2) ibn ʿAbd Shams ibn ʿAbd Wudd ibn Naṣr ibn Ḥisl ibn ʿĀmir ibn Luʾayy, Abū Yazīd al-ʿĀmirī: one of Quraysh’s foremost orators and nobles. He embraced Islam on the day Mecca was conquered, and his Islam proved sound. He was generous, eloquent, and given to much prayer, fasting, charity, Qur’an recitation, and weeping. It is said he used to stand in prayer and fast so often that his complexion became sallow. He played a commendable role in the Treaty of al-Ḥudaybiyah. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, he delivered a momentous sermon in Mecca that steadied the people upon Islam; his address there was comparable to Abu Bakr al-Ṣiddīq’s in Madinah. Later he set out with a group to Syria for jihad, was present at Yarmuk, and served as commander over one of the battalions. It is said he was martyred on that day. Al-Wāqidī and al-Shāfiʿī, however, said that he died in the Plague of ʿAmwās.
ʿĀmir (3) ibn Mālik ibn Uhayb al-Zuhri, brother of Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ. He migrated to Abyssinia and was the one who brought ʿUmar’s letter to Abū ʿUbaydah appointing him over Syria and relieving Khālid of command. He was martyred at Yarmuk.
ʿAbd Allah (4) ibn Sufyān ibn ʿAbd al-Asad al-Makhzumi, a Companion who migrated to Abyssinia with his uncle Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Asad. ʿAmr ibn Dīnār narrated from him with a missing link, for he was killed at Yarmuk.
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān (5) ibn al-ʿAwwām, brother of al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām, was present at Badr as a polytheist; he later accepted Islam and, according to one report, was martyred at Yarmuk.
ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān, according to one view (6), also died there.
ʿIkrimah ibn Abī Jahl was, by one opinion (7), martyred at Yarmuk.
ʿAmr ibn Umm Maktūm was martyred on the day of al-Qādisiyyah, as noted above (8); it is also said that he returned to Madinah.
ʿAmr ibn al-Tufayl (9) ibn ʿAmr has already been mentioned.
