The sound collection also contains the ḥadīth:
“A faction of my community will continue to stand manifest upon the truth; those who abandon them and those who oppose them shall not harm them until the command of Allah comes while they remain in that state.”(1)
Al-Bukhārī adds: “They will be in al-Shām.”(2)
Many scholars of the early generations said that this victorious faction is the People of Ḥadīth. This, too, is among the portents of prophethood, for the adherents of ḥadīth in al-Shām are more numerous than in any other region of the Muslim world—praise be to Allah—especially in the city of Damascus, which Allah protect and preserve. A forthcoming ḥadīth will state that Damascus will be the stronghold of the Muslims when turmoil erupts.
In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, on the authority of al-Nawwās ibn Samʿān, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us that Jesus son of Mary will descend from heaven “at the white minaret to the east of Damascus.”(3) It may be that the original wording is “upon the eastern white minaret in Damascus”; I have been told that such a wording exists in some manuscripts, though I have not yet seen it myself—Allah is the One who facilitates.
That very eastern white minaret of the Great Mosque of Damascus was rebuilt after the Christians set it ablaze in our own times, sometime after the year 740 AH. Its reconstruction was financed from Christian funds taken in recompense for their aggression. There is great wisdom in this, namely that Jesus son of Mary, the Prophet of Allah, will descend upon a structure rebuilt with their own wealth, thereby refuting the lies they have fabricated about him and about Allah. He will break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the jizyah—meaning he will dispense with it—and he will accept from no one, whether Christian or otherwise, anything but Islam; whoever refuses, he will kill.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ conveyed this about him, endorsed it, and deemed it permissible for him. May Allah’s blessings and peace ever rest upon him until the Day of Judgment, and may He be pleased with all the Companions of the Messenger of Allah.(4)

A reminder of certain miracles granted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that resemble the miracles granted to a number of prophets before him—though superior to them—besides the uniquely great miracles that were his alone, peace be upon them.
Among these is the Magnificent Qur’an, concerning which Allah says, “Falsehood cannot approach it from before it or from behind it; [it is] a revelation from One All-Wise, Praiseworthy.” (Fussilat 41:42).
It is an everlasting miracle; its proof is evident and nothing comparable to it can be produced. Both mankind and the jinn were challenged to bring the like of it, or ten sūrahs, or even a single sūrah resembling it, and they were unable to do so, as was explained at the beginning of the Book of Miracles. The ḥadīth agreed upon by both Ṣaḥīḥ collections, transmitted through al-Layth ibn Saʿd, has already been cited.
