Another report:
It is established in the Ṣaḥīḥ (1) that the Prophet ﷺ prayed for Anas ibn Mālik to be granted abundant wealth and many children, and the prayer was answered. Al-Tirmidhī also narrated (2)—through Maḥmūd ibn Ghaylān, Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī and Abū Khaldah—that the latter said: “I asked Abū al-ʿĀliyah, ‘Did Anas actually hear directly from the Prophet ﷺ?’ He replied, ‘He served him for ten years, and the Prophet prayed for him. Anas owned an orchard that bore fruit twice a year, and in it grew sweet basil whose scent was like musk.’
We likewise read in the Ṣaḥīḥ (4) that Anas fathered nearly one hundred children—indeed, a little more. In another version the Prophet ﷺ said: “O Allah, lengthen his life,” and he lived to be one hundred years old.
The Prophet ﷺ also prayed for Umm Sulaym and Abū Ṭalḥah during the remainder of a night they spent together. She conceived and bore a son whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named ʿAbdullāh, and from his line there later came nine sons, every one of whom had memorised the Qur’an; this too is authentically recorded in the Ṣaḥīḥ (5).
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim relates—through ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār, from Abū Kathīr al-Ghubarī, from Abū Hurayrah—that Abū Hurayrah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to supplicate that Allah guide his mother. The Prophet prayed, and when Abū Hurayrah returned home he found his mother bathing behind the door. When she finished she declared, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” Abū Hurayrah wept for joy, hurried back to inform the Messenger of Allah, and then asked him to pray that Allah endear them both to His believing servants. The Prophet prayed, and the request was granted. Abū Hurayrah said, “There is no believing man or believing woman except that he or she loves us.” (6)
Abū Hurayrah spoke the truth—may Allah be pleased with him and grant him His good pleasure. A further outcome of that supplication is that Allah has made his name famous on Fridays, when people mention him before the Friday sermon; this is part of Allah’s predestined facilitation and subtle decree.
It is also soundly recorded in the Ṣaḥīḥ that the Prophet ﷺ prayed for Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ when he was ill, whereupon he was cured, and that he asked Allah to make Saʿd’s supplication ever answered, saying, “O Allah, answer his prayer and make his shot hit the mark.” (7) And so it was—an excellent commander of detachments and armies he proved to be.
