the Kaʿbah, and he began prodding them with something in his hand while saying:
“Truth has come and falsehood has vanished; indeed, falsehood is ever bound to vanish. Say, ‘Truth has come, and falsehood can neither originate nor restore.’” (1)
Another version states that he did not even point to an idol without it falling flat on its back; in yet another, no idol was indicated except that it toppled over.
Al-Bayhaqī (2) said: Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ and Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan the judge both informed us, saying: Abū al-ʿAbbās Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb related to us; Bahr ibn Naṣr and Aḥmad ibn ʿĪsā al-Lakhmī narrated to us, saying: Bishr ibn Bakr (3) narrated to us; al-Awzāʿī reported from Ibn Shihāb, who said: al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr al-Ṣiddīq told me, on the authority of ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me while I was screened by a curtain bearing images. He tore it down and said, ‘The people who will face the most severe punishment on the Day of Resurrection are those who imitate the creation of Allah.’” (4)
Al-Awzāʿī added: ʿĀʾishah said, “A shield bearing the figure of an eagle was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; he placed his hand upon it, and Allah erased it.”

The Story of the Straying Camel—Its Prostration before the Prophet and Its Complaint to Him
