“I rendered some butter of mine, placed it in a skin container and presented it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He accepted it, left a little inside, blew into it and invoked blessing, then said, ‘Return her skin to her.’ They returned it, and it was full of butter. I assumed that the Messenger of Allah had not accepted it, so I came crying and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I clarified it only for you to eat!’ He realized that his supplication had been answered and said, ‘Go back and tell her: let her eat her butter and invoke blessing.’ She continued to eat from it for the rest of the Prophet’s life, and throughout the caliphates of Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, and ʿUthmān, until the events involving ʿAlī and Muʿāwiyah occurred.

He proposed marriage to her, but she deemed herself unworthy and said, ‘Rather, marry me to whomever you wish.’ He married her to Zayd and allotted her thirty ṣāʿs of grain, saying, ‘Eat from it and do not measure it!’ She also had with her a skin of butter as a gift for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She told her maid to take it to the Messenger of Allah; the vessel was emptied there, and he instructed her, when it was returned, to hang it up and not tie its mouth. Umm Sharik entered and found it full. She said to the girl, ‘Did I not tell you to take it to the Messenger of Allah?’ She replied, ‘I did.’ The matter was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah, and he commanded them not to tie it. It remained like that until Umm Sharik finally tied it herself (3). They then measured the barley and found it still thirty ṣāʿs, not a grain less (4).
