—no falsehood! I am the son of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib.” (1)
ʿAbbās, ʿAlī, and Abū Sufyān then clung to the mule, trying to slow its pace out of fear that one of the enemy might reach him. He remained in that position until Allah granted him victory and supported him there, and the people did not regroup until the slain lay strewn before him—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him.
Abū Zurʿah said: “Al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Walīd ibn Ṣubḥ al-Dimashqī narrated to us; Marwān—meaning Ibn Muḥammad—narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn Bashīr narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, ‘I have been distinguished above mankind by the strength of my assault.’” (2)
Section: Descriptions of his ﷺ qualities in the scriptures handed down from the earlier prophets
We have already presented a good portion of these glad tidings before his birth; here we shall cite some further select passages. Al-Bukhārī and al-Bayhaqī—this wording is al-Bayhaqī’s—transmitted through Fulayḥ ibn Sulaymān, from Hilāl ibn ʿAlī, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, who said:
“I met ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr and asked, ‘Tell me about the description of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Torah.’
He replied, ‘Certainly. By Allah, he is described in the Torah with part of the description found in the Furqān:
“We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner” (al-Fatḥ 48:8),
and as a protection for the unlettered. ‘You are My servant and My messenger; I have named you al-Mutawakkil (the one who relies upon Me).’ He is neither harsh (5) nor hard-hearted, nor loud-voiced (6) in the marketplaces. He does not repay evil with evil; rather, he pardons and forgives. I shall not take him unto Me until, through him, I set aright the crooked creed so that they will say, “There is no god but Allah,” and through him I will open blind eyes, deaf ears, and sealed hearts (7).’”
