Imām Aḥmad said (1): Ḥajjāj narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us; ʿUqayl ibn Khālid informed me, from Ibn Shihāb, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, that Abū Hurayrah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “I was sent with concise, all-embracing speech, and I was aided by awe. While I was asleep, the keys to the treasuries of the earth were brought to me and laid in my hand.”
Al-Bukhārī likewise reported it (2) through al-Layth’s chain.
Aḥmad also said (3): Isḥāq ibn ʿĪsā narrated to us; Ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I was aided by awe and granted concise speech; and while I was asleep the keys to the treasuries of the earth were brought to me and placed in my hand.” Aḥmad alone transmitted this wording through this chain (4).
Aḥmad further said (5): Yazīd narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us, from Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I was aided by awe, granted concise, comprehensive speech, and the earth has been made for me a place of prayer and a means of purification; and while I was asleep the keys to the treasuries of the earth were put into my hand.” Aḥmad alone reported this version through this route, and it satisfies Muslim’s criteria (6).
It is authentically established in the two Ṣaḥīḥs (7), through Ibn Wahb, from ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith, who said that Abū al-Naḍr related to me, from Sulaymān ibn Yasār, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: “I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laugh fully to the point that I could see the back of his throat; he would only smile.”
Al-Tirmidhī said (8): Qutaybah narrated to us; Ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allāh (9) ibn al-Mughīrah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Jazʾ, who said: “I never saw anyone smile more than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”
