Aḥmad ibn Ḥāzim ibn Abī Ghurzah reports from him, saying:
“Āsbāṭ ibn Naṣr related to us, from Simāk, from Jābir ibn Samurah, who said:
‘I performed the early prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, after which he went off to his family and I accompanied him. Some boys came toward him, and he began to stroke the cheeks of each one of them in turn. When he stroked my own cheek, I felt his hand to be cool and fragrant, as though he had just withdrawn it from the perfumer’s sachet.’(1)
Muslim likewise transmits this ḥadīth(2) through ʿAmr ibn Ḥammād with a similar wording.
Abū Zurʿah al-Rāzī said: “Saʿīd ibn Muḥammad al-Jarmī narrated to us; Abū Tumaylah(3) narrated to us, from Abū Ḥamzah(4), from Jābir(5), from ʿAbd al-Jabbār ibn Wāʾil, from his father, who said:
‘Whenever I shook hands with the Prophet ﷺ—or whenever his skin touched mine—I could still detect on my hands, after he had touched them, a scent more pleasant than musk.’(6)
Imām Aḥmad said: ‘Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us’—and Ḥajjāj(7) added: ‘Shuʿbah informed me’—‘from al-Ḥakam, who said: I heard Abū Juḥayfah say:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out at midday to the plain (al-Baṭḥāʾ). He performed ablution and prayed two rakʿahs for Ẓuhr, with a short spear (ʿanazah) placed before him.’—ʿAwn added, from his father: ‘A donkey and a woman would pass behind it.’—‘Then,’ Ḥajjāj continued, ‘the people rose and began taking his hand and wiping their faces with it. I, too, took his hand and passed it over my face, and found it cooler than ice and more fragrant than musk.’(8)
Al-Bukhārī likewise narrates this report(9) through al-Ḥasan ibn Manṣūr, from Ḥajjāj ibn Muḥammad al-Aʿwar, from Shuʿbah, with identical wording. The principal ḥadīth is also found in both Ṣaḥīḥs.
Imām Aḥmad further said: ‘Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us; Hishām ibn Ḥassān, Shuʿbah, and Sharīk narrated to us, from Yaʿlā ibn ʿAṭāʾ, from Jābir ibn Yazīd, from his father—meaning Yazīd ibn al-Aswad—who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led the prayer at Minā. After finishing, he turned and noticed two men at the rear of the congregation. He summoned them, and they were brought to him, trembling with fear, and he asked, ‘What kept you both from praying with—’”
