Al-Ḥārith ibn Abī Usāmah (1) said: “ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bakr narrated to us; Ḥumayd narrated to us, from Anas who said:
‘When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ first entered Madinah, Umm Sulaym took me by the hand and said, “O Messenger of Allah, this is Anas—a bright boy who can write; let him serve you.” I served him for nine years, and he never once said about anything I did, “You did wrong,” or “What a bad thing you did.” I have never touched brocade or silk softer than the palm of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, nor have I ever smelled musk or ambergris more fragrant than his scent.’
The same report was transmitted by Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān, ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim, Marwān ibn Muʿāwiyah al-Fazārī, and Ibrāhīm ibn Ṭahmān, all of them from Ḥumayd, from Anas, concerning the softness of his ﷺ palm and the sweetness of his fragrance—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
In the narration of al-Zubaydī, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd, from Abū Hurayrah, it is stated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed the whole of his foot on the ground, having no arch (2). A report to the contrary will be cited later.
Yazīd ibn Hārūn said: ‘ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd ibn Miqsam narrated to me; he said: My aunt Sārah bint Miqsam narrated to me, from Maymūnah bint Kardam, who said:
“I saw the Messenger of Allah in Mecca while he was mounted on a camel, and I was with my father. In the hand of the Messenger of Allah was a small whip like those used by scribes. My father approached him and took hold of his foot, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted him to do so. Of all that I remember, I have never forgotten how the index toe of his foot was longer than the rest of his toes (3).”’
Imām Aḥmad transmitted this narration in full through Yazīd ibn Hārūn (4). Abū Dāwūd recorded part of it through the same route (5), and it was also reported by Aḥmad ibn Ṣāliḥ (6), from ʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, from Ibrāhīm ibn Maysarah, from his maternal aunt, from her. Ibn Mājah likewise transmitted it through another chain from her (7). Allah knows best.
