Abū Zurʿah al-Rāzī (1) says in his book “Signs of Prophethood,” in the chapter, “Mention of the fact that when the Prophet ﷺ spoke, light was seen between his front teeth”:
“Ibrāhīm ibn al-Munḏir ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥizāmī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Thābit narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm, the nephew of Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, from Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, from Kurayb, from Ibn ʿAbbās:
‘Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke, a light could be seen shining from between his incisors.’
The chain is sound (2).
Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Dhuhlī said:
ʿAbd al-Razzāq (3) narrated to us; Maʿmar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī who reported that Abū Hurayrah was asked about the description of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He replied:
‘He was the finest and most beautiful in appearance. He was of medium height inclining toward tall, broad between the shoulders, with gently sloping cheeks, hair of jet-black color, naturally kohl-ringed eyes, and long eyelashes. When he placed his foot down he set it flat, with no arch to the sole. When he laid his cloak over his shoulders he looked like a bar of silver, and when he laughed the very walls seemed to sparkle. I have never seen anyone like him, before or after.’
Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā also transmitted it through another connected chain, saying:
Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm—meaning al-Zubaydī—narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith narrated to me, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sālim, from al-Zubaydī, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah, and he related something similar to the foregoing (4).
Al-Dhuhlī also narrated it from Isḥāq ibn Rāhwayh, from al-Naḍr ibn Shumayl, from Ṣāliḥ ibn Abī al-Akhdar, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked as though he had been cast in silver. His hair was neatly arranged, his abdomen level with his chest, and the joints of his shoulders were large. He placed his whole foot firmly on the ground. When he advanced, he advanced with his whole body, and when he turned away, he turned away with his whole body (5).’
Al-Wāqidī narrated:
ʿAbd al-Malik related to me, from Saʿīd ibn ʿUbayd ibn al-Sabbāq, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had thick palms and feet, large shanks, strong forearms, broad upper arms and shoulders with a wide span between them, a spacious chest, well-ordered hair, long-lidded eyes, a handsome mouth, a fine beard, complete ears, and was of medium height—’
